BINARY MOTIONS / a study in polarity and somatic (re)(ex)pression
Mixed media generative loop from live-recorded performance, TouchDesigner, 2022
What does YES look like? What does NO look like? How does each feel in our bones? This physical inquiry aims to use the embodiment of polarized states to recognize dynamic possibilities available through voice and movement.
Paulina employs the ritual use of masks to explore the primal bodily, this time through the use of sonic frequencies and chants. The meditation included the repetition of binary phrases:
no / yes / dominance / submission / human / animal / small / big
The work aims to explore the edges of these polarities, bodily agency, and real versus imagined boundaries.
